Convoluted thoughts of a Striped Cat
I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 recently as I had never been impressed with Vista's performance. Windows 7 has indeed been much faster but something happened that I did not expect. At one point I had a memory module fry in my laptop and took it as an opportunity to max out the memory. I went ahead and slapped 4 gigs of ram in it and noticed a performance boost. Another thing that I noticed was that all of a sudden Vista took about twice as long to hibernate as it used to. I chalked this up to the large amount of ram that it needed to cache and the relatively slow laptop hard drive. On average it took abound a minute and a half to hibernate. Ever since I installed Windows 7 it hibernates in about 20 seconds and comes back in about the same amount of time. I'm rather impressed.
My cell phone has been acting up a lot lately. I'm not sure whats wrong with it but I've reset the device and done a complete reload on everything but its still being buggy. Its doing weird things like trying to call a second party while I am in a call and randomly switching to the wrong application. The device has also been eating battery life like popcorn lately. I really need to get a hold of Verizon and either get them to replace it or take the plunge and replace the phone early. I'd sort of been wanting one of the Android devices but I've only had this one for around 8 months and was hoping to get more life out of the phone.
I saw Avatar finally yesterday evening. The 3D gave me a headache and caused my eyes to water a fair amount. Whoever designed the glasses for viewing movies in 3D needs to be shot as they did not fit well over my glasses and because of the shape caused the entire movie to seem as if I was watching it on a circular screen. The 3D itself was so underwhelming that during many parts of the film I could see no reason for watching it in 3D. The movie itself was enjoyable but not the life chancing extravaganza that so many folks had claimed that it was. All in all I'd say it was a good movie that I'd probably buy when it comes out on Blu-Ray, but nothing more then that. Visually it was very impressive but the story fell flat in my mind. The biggest point against it in my mind was how obvious so much of the foreshadowing was. I won't go into any spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it but there were two points in the movie the foreshadowed later events where I more or less knew how it was going to end. Giving away the ending before the end is a crime in cinema in my mind and so I only give it a 7.5/10.
Lately I've been a bit reclusive. I've treated this as a period of getting my head back together. I've had a few things weighing on my mind heavily lately and I think I'm finally getting my head strait enough that I can go back to investing myself in the projects that I used to spend so much time on. I see a cycle of productivity coming back to my life in the near future and am excited to see what comes out of it.

Convoluted thoughts of a Striped Cat
I was going to make a long post about how the new flight security regulations suck and how I think that people are over reacting and how our government is penalizing the general public with intrusive searches and stuff and blah blah blah...
Let me long story short this. I read the new regulations. I'm not taking a trip to Florida anymore this year. Screw getting on a plane. I'm not afraid of someone trying to crash it, I'm afraid of being that guy who misses his flight due to "additional screening."

If there's anyone who's a fan of the podcast that Nik and I do and is bored I've got a task for you! One of our listeners Campbell started a spreadsheet of all of our beer reviews a while back but it needs some updating! If anyone cares to help fill in the blanks or is just curious go have a look at the below link.

Convoluted thoughts of a Striped Cat
I've been meaning to post this picture for about a week now but I kept forgetting to do it. Below is a picture of the DJ gear that I've been using for mixing sets (like the one I posted on the 7th.)

Currently I'm using a Behringer DJX700, a Korg Kontrol Midi controller, a Korg Kaoss Pad KP3, my HP laptop with Traktor and a Creative X-Fi sound source. In the near future I'll be swapping out the mixing board for a Denon Dn-X500 so that I can use the Kaoss Pad in a proper effects loop instead of using it as the final step in output processing.
If you read my journal and enjoy the whole pro audio or DJing thing shoot me a message some time. I'd love to talk to more folks about it.
