Culinary Adventures
Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsI've been meaning to post this for a while but as of late Nik and I have been interested in making sushi. A little while ago I make up a spicy tuna sashimi plate.
The top left is tuna sashimi on top of scallions with masago, the top right is spicy tuna on top of seedless cucumbers with masago, the center right is masago sushi and then the bottom left is sushi rice with a little bit of nanami togarashi. I really enjoy the artistry of putting together a sushi plate; I foresee much more sushi construction in my future. -

Had to write something
Posted on March 23rd, 2010 No commentsI don't claim to be a poet but this was formulated in my mind while going for a drive by myself this weekend. It rolled around in my head long enough that I decided I had to get it down on paper so it would leave my noggin. Its supposed to be read just like it's written and punctuated; the formatting is also intentional.
I know where I am but I don’t know where I am going. The weight of the world on my shoulders; the wind against me.
Door open, keys out; I search for the ignition.
One little turn; the engine is alive. Two point three liters. It’s not much but it’s mine.
I have the title, clean and clear; no one able to place a lean on my freedom.
Freedom, it comes on four wheels; the true American dream.
First gear, press the accelerator; the pulse quickens. Watch the needle climb to six thousand, clutch, shift.
Second gear; release the clutch, more accelerator. My troubles melt. The world is mine as my vision narrows to encompass only what I control, the road ahead of me. Six thousand, clutch, shift.
Third gear; clutch, gas. Nothing matters now but the speed. The world moves by at a feverish pace. It is separate, outside, meaningless. Six thousand, clutch, shift.
Fourth gear, more power. All that matters is ahead of me now, I see nothing else. Bumps, holes, curves, signs; my eyes transfixed only on what will come to pass. The road behind me does not matter. Man and machine functioning as one; balance, harmony.
Fifth Gear. Speed, nothing more. Alive, anything is possible.
I don’t know where I am and I don’t know where I’m going. Possibilities are endless, fate and destiny are in tune; the controls are in my hands.
Sometimes the best therapy is a long drive to nowhere. -
